This saya was made to serve the practical purpose of iaido. The magnolia wood is a rather soft and gentle wood with a near perfect rasin and acid level.
An important difference with a display saya is the inner circle of wood within the koyguchi. The sword must be snuggly embraced in the saya to give it its best performance.
All the ornaments are made from buffalo horn such as the koyguchi, kurigata and the kojiri. the lacquer for this saya, althoug similar to the display saya, is a warm ochre with gold flakes inlay.
Saya of shinken.
