A saya that was made to display a shinken, a sharp and traditional made Japanese sword. Although the choice of wood, alder instead of magnolia, started as an experiment, it eventually served its purpose.
The obvious charm of this saya is the very warm and luxurey appearance due to the dark red brown lacquer with gold flakes inlay.
The process of lacquer was done with multiple transparent layers which gives the warm and deep shine in the lacquer. The gold flakes were placed during this process which makes it appear as if they are inbedded within the lacquer. Which they are in fact.
Saya of shinken.
