This original saya from an iaito needed a repair above the gurikata. The wood was to thin. Something that occurs often with a machine made saya. After replacing this piece we decided to play a bit with this new look by given the saya a full stretch of dark lacquer.
Also this saya happened to had a wonderfull wood structure that was nicely revealed with a transparent lacquer. With some white cherry blossom decoration it became a beautiful piece of art.
On the dark stretch an extra ornament was placed with the Japanese writting of 'Wabi Sabi'. a phrase that refers to the saying that something is only perfect when it contains it's natural imperfection. This was layed in with gold leaf.
